If you’ve ever user a Chromebook - you’ll see how much more efficient they are at navigating Chrome tabs. Unfortunately, Apple gives you very limited control over how you can configure your trackpad to do cool shit.
BetterTouchTool steps in to help beef up the capabilities of your trackpad, keyboard, and touchbar (if you still have one, ew).
Here are a few configs that will make your life easier:
Configure Triple Click
Triple click in chrome is dope - if you triple click a tab, it closes the tab. If you triple click a link, it opens that tab in a new link. It’s a good idea to configure triple click for the entire system.
- Open BetterTouchTool
- Click All Apps
- Click ➕ at the bottom of the screen
- Add the trigger as:
3 Finger Tap
- Add Action as:
Middle Click
Configure Swipe to Change Tabs
This one is my favorite. You can use three fingers to swipe left and right to switch tabs. This makes it a lot easier to navigate between tabs from the trackpad.
Open BetterTouchTool
- Click Google Chrome
- NOTE: this is so you don’t accidently trigger shortcuts in other apps you’re using.
- Click ➕ at the bottom of the screen
- Add the trigger as:
3 Finger Swipe
Right
- Add Action as:
Send Keyboard Shortcut
- Record the shortcut as: CTRL+TAB - Save this config.
- Click ➕ at the bottom of the screen
- Add the trigger as:
3 Finger Swipe
Left
- Add Action as:
Send Keyboard Shortcut
- Record the shortcut as: CTRL+SHIFT+TAB - Save this config.
Now, when you do a 3 finger right swipe - the tab will switch to the one to the right of your current tab, and vice versa.
Dope. Right?
